The purpose of this 1 day course is to allow QNMU members to discuss and develop their understanding of the importance of culture and professional practice in developing a practice environment that is conducive to safe, quality patient/resident care, as outlined in the Positive Practice Environment Standards.
It will also touch on the importance of culture, practice and governance in creating a workplace that is safe and supportive for all nurses and midwives, leading to safe workloads and greater job satisfaction.
By the end of this course participants will be able to:
• Describe the factors that contribute to culture in the workplace
• Identify the relevance of various elements of nursing and midwifery leadership, work culture, research and autonomy that impact upon the practice environment
• Engage in group work and question and answer discussions to assist with understanding of the context, themes and content
• Describe the steps to take to promote and/or initiate a shared governance model in your workplace
• Become familiar with the Positive Practice Environment Standards endorsed by the Queensland Government
• Obtain clarity and advice from a panel discussion at the end of the day.
