How did we get here?
In 2014, Tony Abbott’s federal government abandoned an agreement that secured federal and state health funding for years to come. By walking away from this agreement, billions of dollars were ripped from already budgeted state health services.
When Malcolm Turnbull’s government was elected, it agreed to partially restore funding. But the damage was done – Queensland had already lost $1.12 billion.
Other states like New South Wales and Western Australia have stuck deals with the federal government that makes up for the money they lost, but there is nothing on the table for Queenslanders.
While the federal government has recently promised to pay back $308.2 million to Queenslanders in health funding, this money doesn’t come close to paying back the $1.12 billion owed to Queenslanders for already budgeted health services.
We call on Malcolm Turnbull and the federal government to stand up for Queenslanders and pay up.
