QNMU Annual Conference cancelled
Published: 12 June 2020
After careful consideration, QNMU Council has made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s 2020 QNMU Annual Conference, which was scheduled to take place in Brisbane this July.
Due to government restrictions on public gatherings, and for the safety of us all, Annual Conference could not go ahead in its usual format at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. Unfortunately, a virtual form of Conference was also not practical due to the number of delegates/alternate delegates that must participate, as well as the need for branches to consult in real-time on changes to motions as they are debated at Conference.
Notice of Motions
Branch members have already been asked to submit urgent Notices of Motions, and submission closed on 21 April 2020. QNMU Council will consider these motions at a future Council meeting.
While Council will do its best to address any motions branches submit via the portal, please be aware that Council members are also operating in difficult circumstances and adapting to new forms of communicating as an elected group, including with reduced time limits. Council will therefore be limited in how many motions it can consider.

To ensure the QNMU can continue advocating for members on policy issues, Council has also determined that current elected members of the QNMU Policy Committee (QPC) will remain on the committee until next year’s Annual Conference.
Engaging Local Branches into the future while the COVID-19 outbreak continues is a major priority for the QNMU. Obtaining information and guidance from members and branches is the foundation of how our union operates. Please rest assured that we are working hard to provide alternative ways for branches to engage in our democratic process and ensure your priorities are at the forefront of everything we do.
