All financial members are automatically covered for up to $10 million, or $70 million in the aggregate (subject to the terms and conditions of the policy being met and any applicable exclusions).

QNMU LegalPlus gives members access to discounted legal advice for all non work-related matters including wills and family law. The first consultation is free.

Continuing professional development

Our one-stop CPD portal offers QNMU members a range of free resources to help meet your CPD requirements. This includes free access to a bespoke learning management system built for nurses and midwives, with up-to-date specialist content developed by qualified healthcare and legal experts. 

Free training and education delivered in-person

Our extensive training program is offered to members right across Queensland. It’s all FREE and counts towards CPD. In an average year, we deliver more than 25 different courses at locations all across Queensland.

Members decide how the QNMU is run.  We operate from the branches up… Local branches vote on and set the agenda at our Annual Conference and elect our leadership team (who are all AHPRA regulated nurses and midwives).

Case study: The QNMU difference during 2020 — International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife

Thanks to COVID-19 the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife was celebrated on the front line. As QNMU members did all they could to protect the community and save lives, their union was able to:

  • Rapidly establish a Coronavirus website, providing critical updates, resources and FAQs regarding an unprecedented global health and economic crisis. 
  • Intervene when a private hospital advised frontline health workers to reuse disposable face masks (that advisory was subsequently withdrawn).
  • Recover $1.7 million for individual members.
  • Assist 49,572 members through our call centre.
  • Provide expert representation to more than 4,000 members.
  • Provide wellbeing assistance to more than 400 members.
  • Launch a Professional Practice Awards program.
  • Secure commitments from both major parties to maintain nurse-to-patient ratios ahead of the Queensland Election.
  • Put pressure on the Federal Government to ‘Stop the Cuts’ in aged care, and
