On International Nurses Day, May 12, 2018, the Queensland Nurses and Midwives’ Union (QNMU) undertook an audit of private aged care facilities across all federal electorates in Queensland. Facilities from charitable, community based, for-profit and religious based providers were included.

The audit was an activity undertaken by the QNMU as part of a national day of action, in support of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF) “Ratios for Aged Care” campaign.

The audit was designed to collect basic staffing data from which skill and staff mix could be calculated, along with average care hours per resident day (CHPRD). Additional questions related to staff satisfaction with current staffing levels and their capacity to deliver quality care, meal quality and staff replacement practices.
