What is QNMU LegalPlus?

For all non-work related matters, including wills, family law and personal injury claims, QNMU members have access to QNMU LegalPlus. QNMU LegalPlus is a benefit of your QNMU membership, providing financial QNMU members and their immediate family members with access to free and discounted legal services, making legal services more accessible and affordable.

Immediate family members are those who meet the following and are living under the same roof as yourself:

  • Spouse
  • De facto partners
  • Child
  • Sibling
  • Parent / legal guardian
  • Kinship.

QNMU LegalPlus provides financial members and their immediate family members with:

  • one 60-minute initial consultation with a lawyer to provide advice to on a legal issue
  • discounted legal fees should the member retain the firm to represent them if their legal issue cannot be resolved in the initial consultation
  • a free basic will service

QNMU LegalPlus gives financial members and their immediate family members access to expert lawyers in the areas of:

Personal injury law, including:

  • work injury claims
  • motor vehicle claims
  • public and product liability claims
  • medical negligence claims
  • asbestos claims
  • disability insurance and superannuation claims
  • acquired/traumatic brain injury

Family law, including:

  • separation
  • divorce
  • parenting matters

  • consent orders
  • de facto law
  • family provision applications.

Wills and estate matters, including:

  • estate administration—applications for probate, letters of administration, transmission of title applications
  • advising on and drafting of wills, enduring powers of attorney, powers of attorney, advanced health directives

How do I access QNMU LegalPlus?

If you need to access the QNMU LegalPlus service, complete the QNMU LegalPlus Request Form. The request will then be forwarded to the appropriate law firm that specialises in your issue. You and / or your immediate family member will then be contacted within 48 business hours.

When submitting a LegalPlus Request, a separate request must be completed by you for each person requiring legal assistance, e.g.: 

  • If request is for you and an immediate family member, complete a separate request, one for each (e.g. if you need a will for you and your partner, complete two LegalPlus Request forms)
  • If the request is for your immediate family member only, complete request form on their behalf.

* A reading fee may be charged in circumstances where significant amounts of documentation are required to be reviewed prior to the initial consultation.

# All cost and expenses incurred by members who engage a QNMU LegalPlus firm must be met by the member in accordance with the terms of the client agreement between the QNMU LegalPlus firm and the member.

The QNMU does not provide any warranty or guarantee in relation to the legal services provided by QNMU LegalPlus firms. Members are encouraged to obtain quotes in relation to any legal services they require, including from firms other than QNMU LegalPlus recommended firms.

What if I have a work-related legal matter?

The QNMU employs officers (including industrial officers) with extensive experience representing members in all matters related to your employment.
