Workplace Representatives - Building Power

Having a skilled QNMU workplace Rep in every ward, unit or area is how we build power to make positive change in all workplaces. Workplace Representatives are elected by their colleagues and hold specific rights under IR law.

The purpose of this course is to provide active QNMU members with the skills and knowledge of what it means to be a workplace rep and how collective power can influence change in the workplace by;

The purpose of this course is to provide active members with the skills and knowledge to build power and achieve real outcomes in their workplaces and communities.


By the end of this course participants will be able to:

  • Analyse their local workplace and its strengths and weaknesses
  • Learn recruitment strategies and how to engage with others
  • Identify what an organised workplace looks like
  • Understand the role of the QNMU workplace representative and other activist roles
  • Identify ways to collectively deal with workplace issues
  • Create a workplace plan to start building power to make a difference 

Note: It is recommended that members have completed the Introduction to Activism 2hr course first, before registering for this course.
