Voluntary Assisted Dying - Your roles and responsibilities

The Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2021 is now legal in Queensland allowing terminally ill people the right to choose to die with dignity in a manner acceptable to them.  QNMU members who are Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses or carers who participate directly or indirectly in the Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) process are invited to attend this free webinar to better understand your roles and responsibilities.

Registered Nurse Lesley McLeod (ADON-QVAD Support and Pharmacy, Queensland Health)  will guide you through the following and more:

  • Overview of the regulatory framework
  • Restrictions on communication
  • Conscientious objection
  • The role of Hospital and Health Services and private entities
  • The various stages of VAD including:
    • preparing for participation
    • receiving a request from a person
    • assessment processes
    • administration of a VAD substance
    • after the person dies.

This event is open to all members but more specifically aged care members working directly or indirectly with VAD.  Attendance will provide 1 CPD hour.

Prior registration is compulsory to attend. For more information or enquiries please contact the QNMU Events Team by emailing [email protected].

Ensure you register properly:  Click "Register Myself" then proceed to "Finalise Registration". After registering you will receive the Zoom details for the session.
