Christmas and New Year penalty rates
Published: 21 October 2022
Christmas and New Year are, incredibly, just around the corner! Which means it’s once again time to re-familiarise yourself with your penalty rates over the holiday season.
For
Queensland Health nurses and midwives, check out the table below for the rates you will be paid if you’re rostered on over that time.
Please note, if the proposed EB11 agreement is voted up in the upcoming ballot, Christmas Day will become a ‘special’ public holiday, meaning you will be paid a day’s wage if you do not work. Similarly, if you would ordinarily be required to work on Christmas Eve between 1800 and 0000 on 24 December, but you do not work, you will be paid for the hours you would have worked between 1800 and 0000 at the ordinary rate of pay.
Most
private hospital and aged care enterprise agreements (EAs) provide for 200% for working most public holidays (and some aged care EAs provide for 250%). It’s best to
check your EA for details or call the QNMU on 3099 3210 or 1800 177 273 if you require any assistance.
