 Comprehensive protection

Professional Indemnity Insurance 

The QNMU’s Professional Indemnity Insurance (PII) is one of the most comprehensive policies on the market. Financial members receive:

 

  • cover for up to $10 million, or $70 million in the aggregate
  • retroactive cover 
  • run-off cover (for incidents that occurred while a financial member of the QNMU, but where the claim is made after you stop practicing or you are no longer a member of the QNMU)
  • no excess fees.

Some of the common types of claims covered by our policy include:

  • negligence claims
  • summons to give evidence before a Coronial Inquest
  • defending defamation claims.

Note: Cover is subject to the terms and conditions of the policy being met and any applicable exclusions.


Free advice and representation for work-related matters 


Members get access to a range of industrial and legal experts for work-related matters at no extra charge such as:

  • wage claims
  • unfair dismissal
  • workers compensation
  • complaints to the OHO or AHPRA
  • problems with applications for registration, renewal and re-entry
  • professional misconduct charges
  • AHPRA investigations
  • coronial investigations and inquests.

The QNMU can assist members with workplace issues. We can attend meetings with you, assist with making statements to various authorities, or even represent you in disciplinary matters.

QNMU members are invited to participate in our annual Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards and QNMU Mentoring program.

Recognition under law

QNMU members enjoy the peace of mind that their union is registered under Queensland laws and held to the highest ethical and legal standards. As a member, you have the benefit of a democratic, accountable and regulated union, which leaves no question that the QNMU will be:

  • party to making or commencing a new Enterprise Agreement
  • recognised under the Nurses Award
  • able to represent you at work, in the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission and other industrial courts and tribunals in Queensland.

The QNMU is part of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation, which is also registered and recognised under federal Fair Work laws.


A direct say at all levels


Members decide how the QNMU is run. We operate from the branches up. Local branches vote on and set the agenda at our Annual Conference. All members can vote to elect our leadership team (who are all AHPRA regulated nurses and midwives).
