Social media terms of use

The QNMU encourages and supports online dialogue on our QNMU social media forums. These include, but are not limited to:

These forums provide a platform for QNMU members and the community to keep up-to-date with QNMU or union information and campaigns, and discuss various topics relevant to nursing, midwifery or health and health care.

However, social media is a public space and as health professionals, it is important to be aware of how your online behaviour can affect your professional life and registration.

Improper use of social media can result in disciplinary action being taken by the employer or, in some cases, AHPRA.

The QNMU encourages members to read and follow the guidelines in our social media information sheet, as well as be familiar with the NMBA’s social media policy

The QNMU and / or our page administrators or moderators reserve the right to remove group participants wholly at our discretion. Additionally, we may remove comments or discussion posts and threads that are not in line with the QNMU’s social media terms of use.

In particular, we may remove comments which:

  • are (or are potentially) defamatory
  • are considered offensive, humiliating, intimidating, demeaning or attack or attempt to diminish others
  • are racist, sexist, homophobic, sexually explicit, abusive or otherwise objectionable in any way
  • contain swear words or language likely to offend
  • condone or encourage unlawful activity, including endangering the safety or well-being of others, or breach copyright, or contempt of court
  • are covert marketing or public relations messages for products and/or services not related to the QNMU or its campaigns
  • include the personal  or sensitive information of anyone
  • breach professional practice obligations of patient confidentiality, or are written in ways which have the potential to cause significant confusion for other users
  • are considered ‘spam’ (i.e. posts containing the same message posted multiple times)
  • are repeatedly off-topic
  • misrepresent information about the QNMU in any way
  • represents or speaks on behalf of the QNMU without authority to do so.

Please note that repeated posting of personal or offensive comments about individual Facebook users, QNMU members or staff of the QNMU may be considered harassment. We reserve the right to remove such comments or messages and take action against those responsible.

Outside of moderator business hours, or where a moderator resource is not available, comments on posts may be turned off to allow us to uphold and enforce the Terms of Use.

Where individuals on the QNMU's social media platforms are described as registered health practitioners, this was accurate, to the best of our knowledge, at the time of writing. No representation is made as to the current status of the individuals’ registration. For the current status of an individual’s registration, please refer to the NMBA register at www.ahpra.gov.au
