About Us
We are Queensland’s largest and most powerful union – we are run by nurses and midwives, for nurses and midwives.
The Queensland Nurses and Midwives' Union (QNMU) is the industrial and professional organisation for nurses and midwives working in public and private health and aged care in Queensland.
The QNMU seeks to promote and defend the industrial, professional, social, political and democratic interests of over 69,000 members.
Members include:
- Registered Nurses
- Midwives
- Enrolled Nurses
- Assistants in Nursing and Personal Carers (however titled)
- Students
- Anyone who undertakes nursing work.
There is no other organisation in Queensland that provides comprehensive representation for nurses and midwives as both employees and professionals. Nurses and midwives, through the QNMU, have a long and proud history of working together to achieve improvements to working conditions, to the profession and, through the broader union movement, to the lives of all Australians.
The QNMU is a state-registered union and a branch of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF), which has over 310,000 members nationally. QNMU members are also members of the ANMF.
