Kate Dousi’s journey into midwifery began with a scholarship through the Rural Private Midwifery Education Project at Griffith University, which took her to Toowoomba for two years of placement with My Midwives. It was there that she developed the fierce advocacy for women and families that has defined her practice ever since.

Since joining the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in 2015, Kate has worked across all areas of the maternity service and found her true passion in Birth Suite, where she also dedicates herself to supporting students and new graduates entering the profession.

Committed to improving the system from within, she has taken on roles as a QNMU Delegate, Workplace Representative, Health and Safety Representative, and member of RBWH’s Staff Council – recognising that advocating for colleagues is inseparable from advocating for the women in her care.

Ten years on from her student days, Kate has been nominated for QNMU Midwife of the Year – an honour she accepts on behalf of every midwife working within our healthcare system.

“I adore working with students and new graduates, and while I don’t believe I’ve done anything specifically spectacular, I represent all midwives working within a fragmented system.”
