Lorraine Woods is an Endorsed Midwife with extensive experience dedicated to clinical practice, leadership, and service to some of Queensland’s most underserved communities.
Educated as a Registered Nurse through one of the early university-based nursing cohorts in New South Wales, she transitioned into midwifery and relocated to Queensland, where she gained experience across public and private healthcare settings including Special Care Nursery, antenatal care, Birth Suite, and postnatal services.
She progressed into leadership as a Complex Care Coordinator, delivering telehealth support to high-risk clients in Brisbane, before taking on a Team Leader role overseeing clinical service delivery and staff coordination.
Most recently, Lorraine played a key role in establishing a Midwifery Group Practice birthing service in Weipa. This landmark achievement saw local birthing services commence in May 2024, giving families access to quality maternity care in their own community.
“Every woman deserves access to quality maternity care, regardless of where she lives. Being part of establishing local birthing services in Weipa has been one of the most meaningful achievements of my career – knowing that families no longer have to travel away from their community for that experience means everything.”
