The presentation will expand on the preliminary results of the Grow Your Voice 2023 survey that were presented at the QNMU Conference in 2023.
The previous presentation confirmed that Workplace Violence in all its forms (physical, verbal, sexual abuse and racial harassment) continues across all sectors of health care (public and private hospital, aged care, community and diverse) for Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Midwives, Assistants in Nursing and Personal Care Assistants. The reporting of such incidents has increased over the more than two decades since the initial 2001 QNMU Grow Your Voice survey.
This presentation will present results of an in-depth exploration of the factors associated with workplace violence experienced by those QNMU members who responded to the survey. Further analysis was conducted to determine relationships between demographic and workplace characteristics and the incidence of workplace violence. Of concern are results about the institutional management of episodes of workplace violence and how this may contribute to under reporting. Inaction in responding to workplace violence can be considered another form of violence. Other significant and related survey findings including perceptions of the concepts of scope of practice and specialisation and of lack of clinical mentoring and governance will also be addressed.
The audience will have the opportunity to pose online questions to the survey researchers and QNMU Secretary Sarah Beaman.
The webinar is open to all QNMU members and will provide
1.5 CPD Hours. Prior registration is compulsory to attend. For more information or enquiries please contact the QNMU Events Team on
