Queensland nurses and midwives are encouraged to nominate a colleague or themselves in the 2024 Queensland Nurses and Midwives’ Union (QNMU) Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards.

QNMU Acting Secretary Sarah Beaman said the incredible work of Queensland nurses and midwives should be acknowledged and celebrated.

Ms Beaman said QNMU members could nominate in four categories to win a share in a total of $20,000 in prize money for further professional or personal development.

The People’s Choice Award winner, which will be voted by the public, will also win $1000 for professional or personal development opportunities.

“Queensland QNMU members are being encouraged to nominate a colleague or themselves for outstanding work in the state’s hospitals, health services and aged care facilities,” Ms Beaman said.

“The 2024 QNMU Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards will celebrate the amazing work of our nurses and midwives.

“Queensland’s nurses and midwives continue to work hard to protect Queenslanders in often extremely challenging circumstances and this is a fantastic opportunity to recognise their invaluable contributions.”

Those nominated must be QNMU members.

The QNMU Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Award categories are:
  • Professional Leadership Award
  • Positive Practice Environment Award
  • Early Career Award
  • The Aunty Dulcie Flower and Aunty Gracelyn Smallwood Award.

Nominations close Friday 15 March. Visit www.qnmu.org.au/Awards to nominate or read about award categories and previous winners.

Finalists will be announced on 14 May with winners to be announced on July 25 at the QNMU’s Annual Conference dinner in Brisbane.

The QNMU’s annual Awards program began in 2020 to coincide with the International Year of the Nurse and the Midwife and aims to highlight positive professional practice environments which are linked to improved care quality and outcomes.
