The Enrolled Nurse (EN) role in aged care can be challenging in both the community and nursing home settings. The Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety put a spotlight on the longstanding and unique working conditions and issues of the aged care sector, however there is much that still needs to change for the better. Issues that ENs must deal with on a daily basis include a lack of registered and enrolled staff to meet the needs of older Australians, coordinating a large unregulated care worker workforce, lack of support from Allied Health and Medical Practitioners, more indirect than direct supervision from Registered Nurses (RN), unrealistic expectations of employers, particularly around the distinct roles of RNs and ENs, and the high workloads and ever-present staffing and skill shortages in the aged care workforce. The purpose of this webinar is to discuss EN scope of practice in the context of aged care to help ENs understand their professional obligations and practice standards. Topics discussed will include:
