CTGs - why do we use them? What are the alternatives?
CTGs were introduced into clinical practice in the 1970s without any research to demonstrate that they improved outcomes. Once evidence showed that CTG monitoring didn't improve outcomes for babies and increased interventions for women, you might expect that it would have disappeared from practice. Clearly, it hasn't.

In this engaging and enlightening presentation, Dr Kirsten Small will explore the reasons why we are where we are. She'll provide suggestions for proven currently available alternatives and explore new technologies that might be just across the horizon.
