Qld nurses and midwives secure top awards

The incredible work of nurses and midwives was celebrated at the 2024 Queensland Nurses and Midwives’ Union (QNMU) Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards last night. (Thursday 25 July).
QNMU Secretary Sarah Beaman applauded the finalists and winners for their incredible work and commitment to the provision of quality care for Queenslanders.
She said finalists and attendees enjoyed a night of music and entertainment at the voco City Centre Hotel Brisbane.
The winners are: Professional Leadership Award supported by QSuper: Nurse Navigator Lexi Shah at Children’s Health Queensland (CHQ). Positive Practice Environment Award supported by Union Shopper: Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) Mary Collis at the Department of Education (DoE) State Schools Nursing Service (SSNS). The Aunty Dulcie Flower & Aunty Gracelyn Smallwood Award supported by Hesta: Registered Nurse (RN) Anne Humbert at Nambour Community Mental Health. Early Career Award supported by Nurse Midwife Health Program Australia: Registered Nurse (RN) Erica Hamilton at Alpha Hospital.
Clinical Nurse (CN) and Midwife Stephanie Rackemann at Biggenden Multipurpose Health Service won the People’s Choice Award after securing the most votes from a field of 10 finalists.
“We are so proud of all the finalists and winners at this year’s QNMU’s Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards,’’ Ms Beaman said.
“These awards celebrate the incredible work of Queensland nurses and midwives and the invaluable contributions they make to our communities.”
Ms Beaman said the commitment and passion displayed in the finalists’ and winners’ work was exceptional.
“Our finalists are wonderful examples of what nursing and midwifery are all about and it was a very difficult task for judges to select a winner for each category,” she said.
“We also have a People’s Choice Award winner after thousands of votes were received state-wide. All Queenslanders should be immensely proud of our nurses and midwives.”
Ms Beaman said in the face of an ongoing health workforce crisis, and ever-growing demand for care, nurses and midwives deserved recognition and support.
