QNMU win! Superannuation changes from 1 April
Published: 20 March 2023
Thanks to years of agitation from the QNMU and other unions, public sector nurses and midwives will no longer need to contribute an extra 5% to their superannuation to receive 12.75% from their employer.
This change will commence from 1 April 2023.
From this date, if you no longer wish to contribute 5% to your super, or you want to reduce your individual contributions to an amount you see fit, you will need to contact either your superannuation provider or your salary packaging provider, depending on your circumstances. Click here to read a Queensland Health FAQ for more information.
If you wish to continue contributing 5% to your super, you do not need to do anything.
Other QNMU-won improvements to superannuation are coming soon – including employer contributions being based on ordinary time earnings (which means employer contributions will be made on your shift and weekend penalties). You can read more about these changes here.
After years of calling for change, the QNMU is thrilled to have secured these structural reforms from the government, which will make a huge difference to QNMU members’ retirement savings.
Congratulations to all QNMU nurses and midwives on achieving this massive win with the state government.
