Pharmacology for Midwives: What you need to know about the Medicines and Poisons Act 

Join Dr Roslyn Donnellan-Fernandez, Senior Lecturer in Midwifery at Griffith University, as she provides an update on the Queensland regulations applying to the Medicines and Poisons Act 2019 (MPA) and the Medicines and Poisons [Medicines] Regulation 2021 (MPMR).

This event will examine:
  • the Second edition national Prescribing Competencies Framework (April 2021) NPS MedicineWise
  • the updated regulations applying to the Queensland Medicines and Poisons Act 2019 (MPA) and the Medicines and Poisons [Medicines] Regulation 2021 (MPMR), introduced in September 2021.
  • why knowledge of the updated regulations is relevant to all midwives working across clinical settings in Queensland, public and private, and in the community. 
Following the presentation, there will be an opportunity for Dr Donnellan-Fernandez to answer all your questions in a Q&A session. 

This event is open to all midwife members working under Extended Practice Authority [EPA] provisions and will provide 1 CPD hour.

About the presenter:
A midwife for over 27 years, Dr Roslyn Donnellan-Fernandez has worked in public, private and community settings, and completed her PhD in 2016. As the Director of the Griffith Primary Maternity Care suite of programs, Dr Donnellan-Fernandez teaches undergraduate and postgraduate midwifery programs. Her current research focuses on maternity reform, health funding and systems integration to improve public maternity services access and equity to continuity of midwifery models for vulnerable and under-served groups.
