Aged Care

The election of the Albanese Federal Government is a win for the aged care sector and represents a significant milestone for our national campaign to fix the crisis and finally implement essential recommendations of the Aged Care Royal Commission.

After extensive consultation with QNMU members through their local branches, the QNMU has formally notified Queensland Health (QH) that the offer for an in-principle agreement is acceptable to go to a ballot of all QH nurses and midwives.

Ratios Save Lives

Thanks to the QNMU, legislated minimum nurse-to-patient ratios were implemented in July 2016 in Queensland Health prescribed facilities.

Positive Practice Environment Standards

Sadly, nurses and midwives often report an inability to deliver the standard of care they are trained to provide due to constraints within their workplace - including poor workplace culture, unreasonable restrictions determined by management, or an inability for nurses and midwives to get their voices heard.

Count The Babies

On 20 July, midwives across Australia conducted an audit that told us the number of babies in our hospitals and whether there were a safe number of midwives providing care to them.
