Not sure what PPE to use? Here's a quick reference guide

Published: 21 April 2020

Queensland Health’s interim infection prevention and control guidelines for PPE is the place to go to find out what PPE to use for what situation. This quick reference guide (appendix 3 of the interim guidelines) also explains simply how PPE should be used when caring for a patient with suspected or confirmed COVID-19. These guidelines have been mandated to apply across all of Queensland Health by the Director General of QH Dr John Wakefield, and have also been endorsed by the Statewide Infection Clinical Network.

Queensland is fortunate to have a high per-capita test rate of COVID-19 and a low test positivity rate. With local manufacturing of PPE now occurring and Queensland’s continued access to the recently boosted national medical stockpile, we are in a good position when it comes to PPE stock levels.

However, PPE remains a precious resource, so we all have a role to play in ensuring we use the right equipment for the right situation and conserve where it is appropriate and safe to do so. Click here to read Queensland Health’s guidelines on conserving PPE.
