Public sector 2.5% pay rise from 1 October

Public sector nurses and midwives, your next pay rise of 2.5% will apply from 1 October 2021, as secured by the QNMU.

In 2020, the Queensland Government announced a pay freeze for all public sector employees due to the pandemic. However, the QNMU strongly fought against this, as it would have resulted in an indefinite hold on any pay increases. In response, the government agreed to just defer the pay rise (previously due on 1 April) to 1 October for nurses and midwives employed by Queensland Health and the Department of Education.

While this six-month delay is not ideal, we’re pleased you will be on the same wage as you would have been under normal circumstances.

Negotiations commencing soon for your next agreement

Your current Enterprise Agreement (EB10) will expire on 31 March 2022. In mid-October, the QNMU will commence bargaining with Queensland Health for your next agreement – EB11.

Your next pay increase (due in April 2022) will be determined by the outcome of EB11. Please rest assured that the QNMU will work hard to negotiate the best agreement possible for you and your colleagues. You deserve an agreement that values your work, especially given the role you are playing in this pandemic. We know workloads and job security, as well as fair pay, are major issues for members, and we will be working with Queensland Health over the coming months to reach a suitable agreement.

Remember, we stand a greater chance of convincing your employer to agree to the wages and conditions you deserve if all members get involved in the process. Stay tuned for more information on EB11, including what we will be seeking through negotiations and how you can participate.
