QNMU members recently met with Queensland’s new Health Minister the Hon Shannon Fentiman to discuss the future of nurses and midwives across Queensland.

We covered a range of topics, such as nursing and midwifery workforce issues, including recruitment and planning, as well as maternity care, housing, the Federal Budget and workforce obstacles faced by First Nations nurses and midwives.

QNMU members are particularly concerned about workforce planning and called for the state and federal government to work together to develop a workforce plan to increase the number of nurses and midwives now and into the future.

Thank you to all our members who were involved and spoke so passionately in advocating for our professions, and we look forward to working productively with the new Health Minister to achieve better outcomes for nurses and midwives.
