If you’re working this Easter period, make sure you know your pay rates – and don’t forget to check your payslips to ensure you’ve been paid correctly. See graphics below for your pay rates.

Queensland Health – as Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday are ‘special’ public holidays, if you would normally work these days, but are not rostered on, you should receive a day’s ordinary wages. All overtime worked on public holidays should be paid at double time and a half, whether it’s a ‘special’ public holiday or not.

Public sector members can also view this updated public holiday guide, which outlines working arrangements on public holidays.

Private and aged care sectors – most private sector and aged care agreements provide 200% for if you work these public holidays, but check your agreement for details.

  • The Nurses Award 2020 provides 200%
  • The Aged Care Award 2010 (Personal Care Workers) provides 250%

Casual employees – penalty rates for ordinary hours and overtime on public holidays for most casual employees (i.e. those covered by the Nurses Award 2020, Aged Care Award 2010 or one of most enterprise agreements) must be calculated on the ordinary casual wage rate, which is usually 125% of permanent employee base wage rates.
