Branches are our union's building blocks
The democratic framework of the Queensland Nurses and Midwives’ Union is based on its Local Branch structure.
Local Branches promote membership participation and two-way communication. They are the ‘building blocks’ of our union.
In consultation with their QNMU Organiser, the role of a QNMU Local Branch is to:
-
provide a democratic forum for members to discuss and debate industrial, professional, democratic, political or social issues
-
enable members to determine a position on local issues and grievances in the context of union policy
-
organise members to resolve workplace issues
-
explain and implement policy on nursing and midwifery issues at a local level
-
improve communication between union officials and members
-
represent members in negotiations with employers on local issues (in conjunction with the appropriate QNMU official)
-
co-ordinate union campaigns
-
map their workplace regularly and keep this list up to date
-
keep an up-to-date list of Activists in the workplace
-
participate at the QNMU Annual Conference—the union’s key policy making forum.
