How much are membership fees?

Membership is available for nurses and midwives working full-time, part-time and casually. Membership fees are set according to classification and hours worked.
In order to access the part-time fee members need to be working 48 hours or less per fortnight. Members working in excess of 48 hours per fortnight should upgrade to full membership to ensure adequate Professional Indemnity Insurance coverage.
Membership is available to students who are studying nursing at either university or TAFE. Student members attract a significantly discounted rate and receive our bi-monthly member magazine as well as enjoy access to our comprehensive library services.
Student members undertaking a clinical placement are also covered by the QNMU’s Professional indemnity insurance policy.
For the equivalent of a cup of coffee each month student membership is a great way to learn more about nursing and midwifery issues.
Please note: Student fee is for full-time students only who are not engaged in nursing work. If you are working as an AIN, EN or RN while studying you need to take out full or part-time membership. This will guarantee both industrial protection and legal coverage at work.
Nurses and midwives covered by other unions
Membership is available to nurses and midwives who are covered industrially by other unions. For example, a nurse working as an academic at a university would be covered industrially by the National Tertiary Education Union, but may wish to retain membership of the QNMU for professional reasons and for keeping up to date with the latest developments in nursing. This form of membership attracts a discounted fee and proof of membership of the appropriate industrial union is required.

If you have retired are taking a period of extended unpaid leave (such as unpaid maternity leave), you can maintain your QNMU membership and receive up-to-date information from the QNMU without having to pay full membership fees. Inactive membership is available at a discounted rate for non-practising nurses only.
